Aquatic Plant
What aquatic plant is right for me?

My florescent light is about on 8-10 hours on week days and 10-12 on weekends. What plant is hardy and provides good hiding spots? Is Dwarf Hairgrass good for me? What do i have to do when i get them?
THX!!
Chris Ram thx for your awesome info!!!

Here's a quick-list:

Aquatic Bamboo:

-Very hardy; the leaves spread out and creates a nice Zen Garden look

Vallisneria Americana:
http://www.sacramentoaquariumsociety.org/bap_hap/Plant_Reproduction_Report/images/Corkscrew_Val.jpg
-These plants grow pretty fast and can create dense fields

Egeria Densa:

-Very easy to take care of; takes loads of nutrients away from algae

Dwarf Sag:
http://www.plantgeek.net/images/plantpics/sagcarpet.jpg
-Great foreground plant; pretty hardy

Java Moss (however, these guys can make your tank pretty sloppy if pieces break off):

-Extremely easy; just dump and watch. Excellent hiding place for fish fry

Java Fern (should be attached to rock / wood):
http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/plantfinder/images/Polypodiaceae/JavaFern1.jpg
-also able to just dump in and watch

Bacopa Monnieri:

-very hardy

There are numerous other beginner aquatic plants, just try searching online as most sites would provide some decent info.

Also, I initially had trouble with Dwarf Hairgrass when I first acquired it (loose pieces would uproot and cause trouble with the filter and such), but it's spreading along quite fine now once it established itself in my tank.

You can acquire aquatic plants in most aquarium stores, but the widest selection I've found is from online shops. They provide helpful care information before you decide to buy and ship it quite well with the plants usually arriving in decent condition; if anything, make sure the site you are buying from will replace Dead On Arrival (DOA) items.

When searching for fish, it might be alluring to elect the unusual and fancy fish full of colors, and unusual looking shrimp or crustaceans. An aquarium full of marine life fully included with a coral reef and aquatic plants is very tempting. After all, who would not wish to have an underwater paradise in their apartment? It might, not however, be the best choice for a beginner. Coral reef aquariums require much more care than fresh water tanks or saltwater fish only tanks. Freshwater fish are usually more enduring than marine species and therefore a little more accepting when it comes to water acclimation. It`s recommended that only experienced fish keepers with a real commitment to the hobby venture a coral reef aquarium. A tank containing coral reef life might need several months of cycling before getting the water perfect. The water in a coral reef tank needs to be regulated for lighting, pH and temperature. Start with water from a tap and then put in a sea salt mix to the water. This type of solution is accessible at a lot of fish shops.

Salinity of the aquarium should be between 1.023 and 1.004. Ideal temperature for a marine fish aquarium is between 75 and 79 degrees Fahrenheit. It is also important to test the P.H. of the tank. Ideal P.H. lies between 8.3 and 8.4. Test kits can be bought online or at your local pet store. The same store will also have any solutions necessary to modify the P. H. There isn`t much room for mistakes when it comes to these specific points. In order to avoid a costly mistake it is important to be patient, watch the tank closely, and make sure that you don't introduce any marine life until the tank is ready ready.

When the aquarium is ready, firstly start with anemones and clown fish. They are the most robust of reef species, and who wouldn't like to have Nemo swimming their aquarium? View the marine life closely. Check the energy levels of the fish, and watch for stress. Stress is normally the cause of sickness in fish. Do not forget that these creatures might have come straight from the ocean, and it could possibly take a a short time for them to get get used to to their new home. Another cause of stress in fish is overcrowding. Make sure there allow about 10 gallons of water per one inch of fish. Remember to allow for the full grown size of the fish, not the size of fish when it is purchased.

The incubation time for a lot of sickness in fish is approx 30 days. After about a month, if all is okay with the aquarium and the fish seem to be coping well, then it is fine to introduce some new fish. A mandarin fish or a dwarf angel fish may round out the group very nicely, and they are fairly compatible clown fish. Whenever adding new fish, choose the species watchfully for compatibility. The fish should be in harmony with water specifics, but also make sure that their food source is agreeable. Always remember to be patient when putting in new fish. Make sure you give existing aquarium members plenty of time to get adjusted before placing in more creatures to an fish tank. The most important piece of advice is to do research. Ensure that any new purchases will be suitable tank mates for the existing marine life. With a some luck, and a lot of skill you will be on your way to having a reef fish aquarium that will impress any fish keeper.
