What is the absolute best solution for washing a dog sprayed by a skunk?

Yesterday, my chocolate lab got sprayed in the face, neck and upper body by a skunk. Wow! I always heard of tomato juice, but that it takes a lot of it. I was told by the neighbor to buy skunk wash from the pet store. I bought something from Simple Solutions called Skunk Odor Eliminator. I followed the directions to a tee, used the whole bottle, but there is still a very strong odor. It also isn't helping that is is rainy out today, because that seems to bring the odor back out.
I called my vet and was given a recipe to use. I see some of you have already given it to me, or variations of. If it works, the 1st person who answered will get the 10 pts. Thanks for all the input. I have to wait 4 hours to pick the best answer.

Rain will bring the odor back out...even with the most effective solutions. Tomato juice doesn't work...it MAY cover it up, but that's it. Look for a product called skunk off. That works pretty well...many vets carry it (no appointment needed to get it...they just sell it to you). Otherwise, the following at-home solution works very well (but you can only mix it when you plan to use it)...Take 1 quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide (available from any drugstore), 1/4 cup of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate for you science types) and 1 teaspoon of liquid soap, such as Ivory. Mix and immediately apply to the stinky pet. Rinse thoroughly with tap water.

There is little doubt that Dogs can get depressed and for a number of reasons.

Without going in to why they get depressed let's take a look at the best ways to naturally get them feeling better and more at peace with life. The best ways are to increase their fun levels by getting them excited and in a more up tempo mood. Just as in humans one of the best ways to make them feel better is by exercise.

Exercise releases a a number of chemicals in to the brain that lightens their mood and lifts the sad feelings. This can be achieved in a number of ways, the best of which is to take them somewhere new and have a good hike or run. This really does work wonders and can improve their condition in no time at all.

Do they have a favorite toy? Then use it to get them excited and to spend some quality play time with them. Often it can be isolation that is the cause of he problem, especially if they are alone all day so ensure you spend some time with them. It may also be another animal that is the cause, especially if it is a little more dominant. Ensure that the dominant pet is trained to behave and you should have a much happier home and the Dogs depression should slowly fade away in to nothing.

These few pointers should help to ensure that you have a happy pet and there should not be a need to resort to any drastic measure if you simply get them out of doors and in better spirits via exercise. Animals need plenty of running and playing to keep them in a good mood and happy, and they are pack animals so they need lots of company and friendship as well.
