How long can goldfish live in a large fish bowl?
Today I got a few goldfish and I will be upgrading them to a large tank in 2-3 weeks. Right now all I have is rather large fish bowl. I really don't want them to expire before I get them transferred to the bigger tank. Any suggestions?
Large tank as in 40 gallon cycled with good filtration? You'll probably need to do daily water changes and hope that you don't stress them out too much until you can get proper housing for them.

Your Betta Fish Can Be Your Best Friend: Know How to Set Up the Tank
Betta splendens or betta fishes (called particularly in the USA), also popularly known as Siamenese fighting fish, Japanese fighting fish etc. can prove to be your best friend for up to four years, adding value to your otherwise lonely life. Having a betta fish at home can be a wonderful thing as the beautiful and happy creatures can fill you up in joy and make you feel friendly again in no time.
Why a good pet
Betta fish can be a very good pet because of the following features. A betta fish, when taken care of seriously, can be a true friend. They just love to show their colours and be in their best forms when the water condition is right. Bettas can live up to five years although poor water quality in the tank means the rarely do. Bettas are also inexpensive and affordable pets.
How to set up
Bettas have to be taken care of in a very delicate way. It is said that 90% of all the problems with bettas start with stress such as moving the tank, poor water quality and inappropriate mates etc. The betta fish tank care is probably the most important and the hardest.
A single betta is supposed to do well in a tank of 1 – 2 gallons as bettas love to swim and float and travel. For a pair, buy betta fish tanks of minimum 5 gallons. Bettas have to breathe in order to survive; much like most organisms. So it's better to have some plants in the water.
Once the betta fish tank care is set up, the next step would be to fill the betta aquariums with water. As chlorine and chloramines affect the natural water, it would be better to use a water conditioner. To provide the right betta fish tank care, fill it up to 80% in case it's without a top cover (bettas are active fishes and are known to leap up to 3 inches when excited).
Now we have to take the temperature of the water (recommended:-78-82 degrees constant and best would be to keep a smart heater, if affordable). Cycling up your tank once a month is better for the quality of life your bettas will live.
Now is the time to purchase the betta fish. Bettas are loved and liked for all the parameters such as colour, receptiveness, overall health etc. a proper combination of these will find you your right one. From the store, they will pack your pet in small betta fish bowls with some water to carry you home. Just float the bag in the tank water for 5 minutes (adjusting the temperature gradually) and then put your betta into the tank. And wham!! You have a friend in the tank on your bedside table!
